Dr. Yubing SHI, associate professor of Xiamen University’s South China Sea Institute, was an expert speaker of GNLU International Maritime Academy on March 6-12, 2016, upon the invitation of Professor Bimal N Patel, President of Gujarat National Law University in India. The Academy, whose theme for this session was “Blue Economy and Ocean Governance”, was hosted by Gujarat National Law University. Dr. Yubing SHI gave two lectures for the Academy, with the topics: 1) “development of China’s blue economy and practices in ocean governance”; 2) “international regulation on low-carbon shipping and China’s practices”. The experts who also gave lectures for this session of the Academy include Professor James Kraska, Colonel Raul (Pete) Pedrozo and LCDR Patrick L. Lahiff from the U.S. Naval War College, Lieutenant Colonel Kovit Talasophon from Royal Thai Navy, Dr. Akima Umezawa from Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat, and Assistant Professor Yurika Ishii from National Defence Academy of Japan. About forty representatives from the academic and practical circles in India, Sri Lanka, Philippines and African countries have attended the Academy. And upon the invitation of Gujarat Governor, Dr. Yubing SHI also visited Gujarat Governor’s Official Residence and answered the Governor’s inquiries concerning China’s 21st-century Maritime Silk Road etc.
