Prof. ZHANG Kening has been elected as a member of the Committee Against Torture

The re-election of the members of the Committee was held on 1 October 2013, in Geneva. Prof. Ke-ning Zhang was elected to represent P.R. China. Other elected members represent Italy, Morocco, Nepal, and Denmark, among other nations.

The Committee Against Torture was established in 1987 in accordance with the “Convention on the prohibition of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment”. Its goal is to monitor implementation of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment by the State parties. The Committee is composed of 10 independent experts who are elected by secret ballot.
