Xiamen University Center for Oceans Policy and Law Hosted the Third Academic Salon on Oceans Law
Published: Mon, Apr 20 2009 12:00 AM Views:1842On the evening of April 18, the thirdacademic salon, entitledConstruction and Management of National Marine Protected Areas,took place in classroom C520 of XMU School of Law.The salon was hosted by WANG Zelin,Ph.D candidateof international law. ZHU Yan postgraduate of environmental management at Xiamen University College of Ocean and Earth Sciences gave a report.
ZHU’s report included:
1. Theoretical principles behind marine protected areas
2. American, Canadian, and Australian experiences and practices with establishing and developing marine protected areas
3. Key problems with Chinese establishment and management of marine protected areas
4. Management practices of marine protected areas in Fujian province
5. Recommendations for legislation, management systems, funding channels, and public participation related to the establishment of Chinese marine protected areas
Attendants of the salon discussed ZHU’s report warmly and raised a number of questions and suggestions. At the conclusion, the participants praised the salon as an excellent opportunity to learn more about national environmental management legislation.
