The Grand Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Summer Program at Xiamen Academy of International Law

Persevering through the summer’s July heat, a group of passionate young international legal scholars aspiring to conducting intensive study got together in China’s beautiful coastal city of Xiamen. From July 2nd to July 20th, they had the opportunity to work with seven world-famous jurists of international law while learning about cutting-edge questions facing international law.

The 2012 Sumer Program of Xiamen Academy of International Law officially opened at 9 o' clock on July 2nd, 2012. The opening ceremony was held in the No. 4 Conference Hall of the Center for Science and Art, Xiamen University and was hosted by Prof. Cheng Chia-Jui, Secretary-General of the Curatorium of Xiamen Academy.

The program opened with a welcoming address by Prof. Wu Daguang, Vice President of Xiamen University and Dr. Zhong Xingguo, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Xiamen Committee. Both individuals offered warm congratulations to the students attending the summer program and to the program itself.

The opening address was followed by congratulatory remarks by Prof. Shi Jiuyong, Chairman of the Curatorium of Xiamen Academy and Former Judge and President of the International Court of Justice. He praised the accomplishments made by the academy since its establishment seven years prior and expressed his hope that the Xiamen Academy would continue to attract such excellent participants.
