The lecture was hosted by Prof. He Lixin. Prof. Christina Wang of SCSI and Prof. Yuh-Kae Huang of Taiwan Fu Jen Catholic University attended the lecture.
The lecture discussed “Changes in the Relevant Insurance Contract and the Protection of Third Party Rights.” Prof. Liu began with a brief overview of the complicated legal relationships between the creditor, obligator, guarantor, policy-holder, assurer and insurant, and attempted to sort out these complex relations for the audience. His analysis held that the guarantee system and insurance system are tightly integrated. Prof. Liu listed out frequent problems in practice currently being resolved outside of legal bounds, including notifications about insurance premium payments, notifications about accident warnings, failure to meet the obligation to provide factual statements, and special clauses. After raising these issues, Prof. Liu used examples from German insurance law to discuss potential solutions. In order to present such complicated information in a clear and comprehensible manner, Prof. Liu gave numerous examples and made use of the blackboard to write key words. Prof. Liu’s lecture and attitude carried an air of diligence and studiousness which left a deep imprison on those in attendance.
Prof. Liu left the students with two pieces of advice for legal study: first, establish a strong foundation in civil law and second, give due attention to the study of economics.
