Introduction of the Speaker:

Dr. QIN Tianbao, Vice-Dean of School of Law in Wuhan University; Director, Professor, and PhD supervisor of the Research Institute of Environmental Law (RIEL) of Wuhan University(RIEL is a Key research base of humanities and social sciences acknowledged by China’s Ministry of Education); Deputy Director of the Judicial Theory Research Base on Environmental Resources, the Supreme People's Court; Professor of Collaborative Innovation Center for Territorial Sovereignty and Maritime Rights and Wuhan University China Institute of Boundary and Ocean Studies; Chief Expert of the Key Projects Supported by National Social Sciences Program Fund; Chief Author and Expert Reviewer of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES); Chief Editor ofChinese Journal of Environmental Law.

Currently, he is concentrating on laws and policies concerning environmental resources, biotechnology, seas and water, energy and climate, etc... Prof. Qin is author of several books and more than 60 articles in the fields of environmental law, comparative law and international law, such as SSCI and CSSCI.

In 2014, he attended the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, with the Chinese delegation. In August 2016, he went to New York for the second meeting of the Preparatory Committee on Biological Diversity beyond Areas of National Jurisdiction (BBNJ). Serving as legal adviser of the Chinese delegation, he mainly participated in consultations and negotiations on such issues as marine genetic resources, environmental impact assessment, marine protected areas, and so on.
